{"id":23462,"date":"2019-08-15T11:54:36","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T15:54:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=23462"},"modified":"2019-09-17T13:42:06","modified_gmt":"2019-09-17T17:42:06","slug":"ems-starts-year-with-record-enrollment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2019\/08\/ems-starts-year-with-record-enrollment\/","title":{"rendered":"EMS Starts Year with Increased Enrollment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eastern Mennonite School will welcome 354 students this fall, up 11 students K-12 from the previous year with 94 students in K-5, 100 students in middle school and 160 in high school. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled with the high energy and growing diversity of our student body, faculty and staff,\u201d says Paul Leaman, head of school. \u201cOur vision is to be a school where every student thrives and belongs,\u201d he continues. \u201cWe are working hard to fulfill that vision and welcome each person and the unique story they bring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This years\u2019 students come from a wide range of communities with family addresses in Bergton, Bridgewater, Broadway, Churchville, Dayton, Edinburg, Elkton, Grottoes, Keezletown, Linville, Hinton, Harrisonburg, McGaheysville, Monroe, Mount Jackson, Mt. Crawford, Mt. Sidney, New Market, Penn Laird, Port Republic, Quicksburg, Rockingham, Singers Glen, Staunton, Timberville, Waynesboro, Weyers Cave and Woodstock. <\/p>\n<p>Two out-of-state students are coming from Illinois and Michigan to live with local host families, while eight international high school students come from Nigeria, South Korea, China, and South Africa, also will live in local homes. <\/p>\n<p>Faith traditions represented among students include Anglican, Buddhist, Catholic, Church of the Brethren, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Evangelical, Judaism, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Mennonite, Muslim, Nazarene, Seventh Day Adventist and United Methodist.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-23427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-675x450.jpg 675w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_3500-1000x667.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 12 people joining EMS faculty and staff bring varied experiences as well.
