Each course had a different theme such as \u201cAward Winners,\u201d \u201cNon-Fiction,\u201d \u201cNew Releases,\u201d and \u201cVirginia Choice Readers\u2019 Selections.\u201d As they \u201csampled\u201d and reviewed the books, they enjoyed grapes, crackers, cookies and after-dinner mints, served by a waitress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an engaging way to review of a variety of delicious book selections,\u201d notes Ross. \u201cReading is important for EMS students not only to build literacy skills,\u201d she says. \u201cReading also fosters imagination and innovation, cultivates curiosity about our world, and nurtures compassion for our global community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8594 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-300x214.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-630x450.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-1024x731.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-333x238.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-666x476.jpg 666w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG-1459-1800x1286.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Ross plans library events, designs reading programs, and offer reader\u2019s advisory, as well as works with classroom teachers to develop a reading culture at EMS.<\/p>\n<p>She graduated from EMHS in 2001, earned a BA in 2006 in elementary education from Eastern Mennonite University and an MS in school library science from Longwood University in 2012<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A \u201cBook Tasting\u201d added some variety to a recent 8th grade English class.
