{"id":25289,"date":"2019-11-04T14:51:43","date_gmt":"2019-11-04T19:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=25289"},"modified":"2021-09-01T15:15:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T19:15:12","slug":"2019-auction-fun-raises-24000-for-steam-and-financial-aid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2019\/11\/2019-auction-fun-raises-24000-for-steam-and-financial-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Auction Raises $24,000 for STEAM and Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 EMS Auction brought together a diverse group of school parents, alumni and friends for an evening of laughter and music to raise more than $24,000 to support the school.<\/p>\n<p>A surprise highlight of the Harvest Celebration event was the auction itself with Adam Yoder, father of Justin \u201925 and Ravi \u201922. A social worker with the Community Services Board by day, Yoder has an undercover stand-up comedian side few were expecting.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the more routine auction items of ethnic meals and weekend getaways, Yoder threw in his own items. There was an auction of Paul Leaman, head of school, as a date chaperone for the highest bidder\u2019s son or daughter (worth $200) with \u201cGo Pro footage thrown in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was an extra hour of sleep on Saturday. \u201cReally,\u201d quipped Yoder, \u201cI\u2019ll work it out with your pastor and everyone.\u201d And, mysteriously, he got his hand on high school principal, Justin King\u2019s iPhone, which brought in another $125.<\/p>\n<p>The auction fun came between two sets by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewalkingrootsband.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">The Walking Roots Band<\/a>. \u201cWe are so happy to be part of this event because all of us in this group know the value of Mennonite education,\u201d said band member, Seth Crissman, a graduate of Johnstown Christian School who works in local ministry with children.<\/p>\n<p>Collaborative artwork with the elementary students <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2019\/11\/elementary-artwork-is-popular-auction-tradition\/\">brought in nearly $1,500<\/a> for the art program at EMES.<\/p>\n<p>General auction items brought in $8,100 for school operational costs and student financial aid. <\/p>\n<p>A \u201craise-your-paddle\u201d bid to generate funds for the schools burgeoning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) program raised $10,975. And an online auction prior to Friday\u2019s event brought in $3,658.<\/p>\n<p>Event sponsors included Everence Financial Services; Marvin and Lori Maust; Weavers\u2019 Flooring America; McEneely and Holland families; Springbrook Wellness and Counseling; Mumbauer family; Venture Builders, Inc.; Bluestone Pediatrics; AM Yoder &amp; Co.; and Hank\u2019s Grille and Catering.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2019 EMS Auction brought together a diverse group of school parents, alumni and friends for an evening of laughter and music to raise more than $24,000 to support the school.
