{"id":27084,"date":"2020-02-18T15:39:51","date_gmt":"2020-02-18T20:39:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=27084"},"modified":"2021-09-01T15:05:08","modified_gmt":"2021-09-01T19:05:08","slug":"voces8-11th-visit-historic-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2020\/02\/voces8-11th-visit-historic-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Tenth visit from VOCES8 Is Historic Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Their 10th visit to Eastern Mennonite School brought new energy and people as the internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.voces8.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VOCES8<\/a>, shared the stage with EMS\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/about\/the-arts\/touring-choir\/\">Touring Choir<\/a> and Junior Choir, as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.svcc.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coro Infantil del Valle de Shenandoah (SVCC)<\/a>. Guests came from as far away as Boone, N.C., to hear the ensemble in the EMS Auditorium on February 15 and 16.<\/p>\n<p>The mass choir of 140 voices joined VOCES8 to perform four songs which they had practiced together over two days of workshops under the direction of Paul Smith, CEO of Voces8 Foundation, co-founder of VOCES8 and author of the <a href=\"https:\/\/voces8.foundation\/voces8-method\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">M\u00e9todo Voces8<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The shared repertoire included the world premiere of <em>The Arrow and the Song<\/em>, a piece commissioned by SVCC and EMS. Junior Ryan Shenk had the honor of singing the tenor solo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cVOCES8 is at the very top of the choral world,\u201d said EMS choir director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/jared-stutzman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jared Stutzman<\/a> in his introductions of the group. \u201cTheir performances are brilliant, and their kindness, encouragement, and affirmation is something our students will never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Student singers and audience members experienced the personable, friendly encouraging VOCES8 vibe from the stage and through one-on-one interactions. Each member made time to visit at length and take photos with students and guests after the show. They communicated their encouragement on stage when singing with and leading the students through affirmation, smiles, hugs and specific feedback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul Smith is a marvelous director with a real gift for communicating with singers of all ages,\u201d said Jared Stutzman, EMS choral director. \u201cHis work with the combined choirs in rehearsals was engaging, inspirational, educational, and powerful.
