Donors made 98 individual gifts to raise $26,920 in one day to support Eastern Mennonite School\u2019s COVID-19 Aid Fund.<\/p>\n

The April 22, 2020 #FlamesStrong Giving Day was made successful by generous support from faculty, staff, parents, alumni, friends and even a current student, reports Trisha Blosser, development director.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur community is strong and generous,\u201d said Paul Leaman. \u201cWe are so grateful that we will be able to assure that no family needs to leave the EMS community this year due to hardships caused by COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Support came in other ways too:
\n\u2013 encouraging notes and prayers throughout the day sent in by email and with donations
\n\u2013 phone calls with encouraging words
\n\u2013 contributions toward matching gifts by the Board of Directors and other supporters
\n\u2013 delivery of lunch and a shoofly pie at the school for those working together, but socially distanced<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, donors were entered into drawings for prizes. Winners were:<\/p>\n

7 \u2013 10 a.m., picnic blanket \u2013 Shannon Yoder \u201903 Roth: current parent and faculty member<\/p>\n

10 \u2013 11 a.m., EMS tumbler \u2013 Greta Shenk \u201905 Bucher<\/p>\n

11 a.m. \u2013 Noon, 10-pack of greeting cards featuring EMS student art and photography \u2013 Melodie \u201901 Bomberger May<\/p>\n

Noon to 2 p.m., Herb Weaver pottery \u2013 Charles Hendricks, current parent and designer of the EMES building<\/p>\n

2 to 4 p.m., Les Miserable musical tickets \u2013 Julianne \u201901 Burkholder Ross, current parent and EMS librarian<\/p>\n

4 to 6 p.m., Booster Club Membership \u2013 Andrew Zapanta\u201993 and Alumni Board member<\/p>\n

6 to 8 p.m., Apollo 5 tickets \u2013 Marvin Miller, former long-time EMS choral director<\/p>\n

8 to midnight, EMS fleece blanket- Kelli Nichols, current parent<\/p>\n
