{"id":31865,"date":"2021-01-22T08:40:34","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T13:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=31865"},"modified":"2022-10-31T15:53:22","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T19:53:22","slug":"easy-to-appreciate-ems-principals-on-special-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2021\/01\/easy-to-appreciate-ems-principals-on-special-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Easy to Appreciate EMS Principals on Special Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia Governor Ralph Northam declared January 24-30, 2021 \u201cSchool Principals Appreciation Week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAppreciating our principals is natural, easy, and well deserved,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/paul-leaman\/\">Paul Leaman<\/a>, head of school, about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/maria-archer\/\">Maria Archer<\/a>Director de K-8, y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/justin-king\/\">Justin King<\/a>, 9-12 principal.<\/p>\n<p>In their roles, Archer and King do everything from big picture thinking to emptying trash cans, acknowledges Leaman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing is too small or \u2018unimportant\u2019 for them to do. That\u2019s because they value each student and teacher in their care so much and recognize the physical, emotional, and social aspects of school life that need to come together to create a stable learning and work environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the leadership of King and Archer, together with administrative colleagues and teachers,\u00a0 EMS has joined schools nationwide in massive shifts due to COVID-19 since March of 2020. Due to its smaller size, EMS was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2020\/12\/covid-free-fall-is-reason-to-celebrate\/\">able to keep learning in person<\/a> for the fall with online learning options for personal needs and mitigation protocol as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Colleagues across the school have appreciated the principals, particularly during these unusually challenging months. Some of their comments and observations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I have so appreciated working with Maria and Justin, observing the time and care that they invest in our students and teachers and the wisdom they share in our decision making.\u00a0 These past two school years have been unique, demanding constant creative problem solving, patience, and grace.\u00a0 These are qualities that Justin and Maria embody and inspire others to embody as well. \u2014 Mike Stoltzfus, Director of Business Affairs<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maria empowers, listens, and respects everyone.\u00a0 The way she leads is an example of how I want to treat my students.\u00a0 By being cared for by her, I can care for my students.\u00a0 \u2014 Erika Gasho, 5th grade teacher<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Maria has the gift of true leadership as she brings out the very best in all of her faculty and staff. We know she believes in us, and so we can somehow believe even more in ourselves. \u2014 Heidi, third grade teacher and elementary team leader<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And Garrett Gregory, Student Council Organization president agrees. \u201cMr. King has worked tirelessly to better our school through improved communication, connections with students, and making sure everyone\u2019s needs are met. EMHS students cannot thank him enough for all the hard work he has done!\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo ajU\">\n<div id=\":vv\" class=\"ajR\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\" data-tooltip=\"Show trimmed content\" aria-label=\"Show trimmed content\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ajT\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl.gstatic.com\/ui\/v1\/icons\/mail\/images\/cleardot.gif\" \/>Read Governor\u2019s Northam\u2019s full statement<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Virginia School Principals Appreciation Week<\/h3>\n<div class=\"proc_date\">01\/24\/2021<\/div>\n<div class=\"proclamation\">\n<p>WHEREAS, school principals work cooperatively to direct, develop, and inspire all members of<br \/>\nthe school staff and student body, and to communicate effectively with parents to engage them in<br \/>\nthe learning process; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, principals serve as educational leaders, responsible for managing the policies,<br \/>\nregulations, and procedures necessary to ensure a safe and effective learning environment for all<br \/>\nstudents in Virginia\u2019s public and private schools; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, principals and teachers are entrusted with the opportunity and the responsibility of<br \/>\nguiding, directing, nurturing, mentoring, and imparting knowledge to our children while they are<br \/>\nat school; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, principals must work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, parents, and the<br \/>\ncommunity at-large to proactively prepare students to be self-reliant and productive citizens; and<\/p>\n<p>WHEREAS, Virginia School Principals Appreciation Week is an opportunity to recognize the<br \/>\nhard work of Virginia school principals and to recognize the importance of principals in ensuring<br \/>\nthat every child has access to a quality education;<\/p>\n<p>NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph S.
