{"id":32040,"date":"2021-02-11T15:38:45","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T20:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=32040"},"modified":"2022-10-31T14:23:28","modified_gmt":"2022-10-31T18:23:28","slug":"invitation-to-support-students-of-color-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2021\/02\/invitation-to-support-students-of-color-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Support the Students of Color Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eastern Mennonite School aspires to \u201creflect Christ\u2019s light as a learning community where every student belongs, thrives, and lives God\u2019s call.\u201d A newly revised endowed fund \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/admissions\/scholarships\/multicultural-scholarship\/\">Beca para estudiantes de color<\/a> \u2014 provides opportunity for donors to support the school\u2019s growing diversity, and help remove barriers to an EMS education for more students of color.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEMS is located in one of the most diverse cities in the state of Virginia,\u201d notes Paul Leaman, head of school. \u201cWe hope the Students of Color Scholarship will help us increase the number of cultures and traditions in our school and thus more closely reflect the make up of our city.\u00a0Recognizing that tuition can be a barrier for some families, we believe this scholarship will make an excellent education accessible to more families of diverse backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the 2020-21 school year, this scholarship is limited to students entering grades 6-12. Applicants should be students who are excited about learning and ready to explore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/about\/the-arts\/music-at-ems\/\">music<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/about\/the-arts\/\">las artes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/athletics\/\">atletismo<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/about\/faith-community\/clubs-and-activities\/\">clubes<\/a> at EMS.\u00a0 Applicants will arrange to visit EMS to share more about their desire to join the school community as part of the admissions process.<\/p>\n<p>Interested students entering grades 6-12 and families can learn more about the application process at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/admissions\/scholarships\/students-of-color-scholarship-fund\/\">aqu\u00ed.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Financiaci\u00f3n del fondo de dotaci\u00f3n<\/h3>\n<p>The EMS Students of Color Scholarship was established in 2020 as the school\u00a0 sought more tangible ways to address racial inequities and barriers in the culture at large and at EMS in particular.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias al capital inicial plantado hace casi 30 a\u00f1os, el fondo de dotaci\u00f3n se estableci\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente. The letters were sent to him by EMHS classmates while living with his family in Nigeria during his senior year.\u00a0\u201cThat support from peers meant so much,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI see now how my life trajectory took shape, influenced by other cultures.
