{"id":43727,"date":"2021-05-03T10:56:42","date_gmt":"2021-05-03T14:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=43727"},"modified":"2022-01-26T09:39:55","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T14:39:55","slug":"golf-outing-raises-funds-and-spirits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2021\/05\/golf-outing-raises-funds-and-spirits\/","title":{"rendered":"Golf Outing Raises Funds and Spirits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The April 30, 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/alumni\/golf-tournament\/\">Fore the Flames Golf Tournament<\/a> felt a bit like a family reunion. For many, it was the first outing after a long separation as participants emerged from pandemic-induced seclusion to a safely spaced outdoor setting to support EMS.<\/p>\n<p>More than 140 golfers registered for the event, and, thanks to 41 generous sponsorships (see below), raised more than $25,000 to support EMS athletics and student financial aid. A newly added feature, powerball and mulligan fee options, brought in $1,000 specifically for athletics uniforms. \u201cYou\u2019re a blessing to the EMS community,\u201d wrote co-chairs of the planning committee \u2014 Mattias Clymer \u201906 and Trevor Parmer \u201990 \u2014 to participants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was awesome to see people I haven\u2019t seen in many months, be outside, enjoy some golf, and support the school,\u201d commented Jeff Shank, chair of the EMS board of directors, EMS alum and father, and member of the LD&amp;B team.<\/p>\n<p>The top score for the 18-hole day \u2014 in gusty windy conditions \u2014 came from the foursome (pictured left to right, above) of Schuylar Harmison \u201922, Andrew Gascho, athletic director; Justin King, high school principal; and Ryan Slonaker \u201922.<\/p>\n<p>A second top prize \u2014 Match of Cards \u2014 came from another EMS student-golfer team (pictured top right) of brothers Zach Hatter \u201920, Adam Hatter \u201922 and Drew Hatter \u201924 along with boys varsity basketball coach, Chad Seibert.<\/p>\n<p>See all the tournament winners posted <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageoaksgolf.com\/tournaments\/\">aqu\u00ed.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The golf planning committee included: Co-chairs Clymer and Parmer, Diana Berkshire \u201970, Jair Drooger, Ann Eberly \u201964, Stephanie Forbes, Kelsey Miller \u201905, and Chris Slonaker, EMS golf team coach.
