{"id":50016,"date":"2022-07-13T16:28:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T20:28:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/?p=50016"},"modified":"2022-08-22T12:47:07","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T16:47:07","slug":"community-is-2022-23-theme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2022\/07\/community-is-2022-23-theme\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cCommunity\u201d is 2022-23 Theme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When members of the Chapel Planning Committee brainstormed this past spring about a theme for the 2022-23 school year, it didn\u2019t take long to land on the word \u201ccommunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The theme will be a general guide for speakers in Chapel (grades 6-12) and elementary Gathering, and can be used as a \u201cjumping off point\u201d for a lot of input. \u201cWe want to hear diverse voices from local and global settings,\u201d they said, noting their interest in hearing broad perspectives from many denominations and faith traditions.<\/p>\n<p>Community is a theme that can be taken many directions. What does it mean to be part of a community? What happens when we don\u2019t have community around us? How does a church family provide community? How can you be an active \u201cgiver\u201d in community and a gracious recipient? Edward Scott of Allen Chapel AME in Staunton speaks on MLK Day 2022<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Special focus on area pastors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/paul-leaman\/\">Paul Leaman<\/a>, head of school, will invite pastors of the 53 churches from which EMS has students to speak in chapels at least two times a month. He hopes to hear pastors share about their church community and include \u201cstories that help students understand the value and blessing of being part of a church family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pastors who would like to speak in Chapel or Gathering this year, are invited to complete <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeYclVhDzkvcAeRDuMNLQNpBgN-_I-348ddGOT8zGysbNAwgg\/viewform\">este formulario<\/a>. Other friends, alumni, community members who would like to offer to speak in chapel may email <a href=\"mailto:chapel@easternmennonite.org\">chapel@easternmennonite.org<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:gathering@easternmennonite.org\">gathering@easternmennonite.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>About 10 high school students serve on the Chapel Planning Committee, meeting monthly over lunch to share feedback, ideas and take on planning assignments. The students work with staff advisors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/andrea-wenger\/\">Andrea Wenger<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/facultystaff\/debbie-katz-2\/\">Debbie Katz<\/a> to issue invitations, introduce speakers, write thank you cards, and take part in student-led chapels.<\/p>\n<p>As COVID restrictions began to lift in the 2021-22 school year, students worked with Jared Stutzman, music teacher and choral director, to plan and help lead music chapels.
