Fifth graders read scripture. Elementary students, teachers and staff\u00a0 walked quietly on school grounds\u00a0as part of\u00a0the EMES annual Passion Walk. It was a time to learn about and remember the last week of Jesus\u2019 life with stations to stop and reflect.<\/p>\n<p>Flowers bloomed and the sun shone warmly for this tradition, which has taken place since the school began in 2005, and has happened in all kinds of weather and via video during COVID shut down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Easter story is an important part of our faith journey,\u201d says Maria Archer, K-8 principal. \u201cWhen we create and continue a tradition like the Passion Walk, students begin to see Jesus\u2019 story as part of their story\u2026one that includes sadness and loss, but also joy and hope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The students stopped, listened to readings, and sang a song at five stops:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Jesus\u2019 triumphal entry on a donkey into Jerusalem;<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 Last Supper with his disciples;<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 time in the Garden of Gethsemane where Judas\u2019 betrayed him in exchange for silver coins;<\/li>\n<li>Jesus\u2019 death on a cross;<\/li>\n<li>and finally, Jesus resurrection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See the readings shared at each stop in a 2019 article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/es\/2019\/04\/elementary-students-lead-and-experience-a-passion-walk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fourth graders drummed a beat.
