They identify as being \u201con a mission to educate and empower parents,\u201d showing how screen saturation at home and school has created a wide range of cognitive and social deficits in our young people.<\/p>\n<p>Pediatrician Ron Bashian writes in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Screen-Schooled-Veteran-Teachers-Technology\/product-reviews\/1613739516\/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_show_all_btm?ie=UTF8&amp;reviewerType=all_reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon review<\/a> of the book, \u201cI could not agree more with the observations in and recommendations of these experienced teacher authors\u2026 Executive functions \u2013 such as memory recall, time management, planning, prioritizing, finishing \u2013 are all impaired by prolonged immersion in the addictive allure of video games, texting, and social media. Adverse change in both brain structure and connectivity, perhaps permanent, have been shown to correlate with extended screen time in these still developing young brains.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8576 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Matt-and-Joe-1-1-1-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Matt-and-Joe-1-1-1-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Matt-and-Joe-1-1-1-661x450.jpg 661w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Matt-and-Joe-1-1-1-768x523.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.easternmennonite.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Matt-and-Joe-1-1-1-1024x698.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Clement and Miles will share their research on trends in schools and outcomes, and make a case for simpler, smarter, more effective forms of teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>The session is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Area private and public school and college or university administrators and teachers are encouraged to attend, as well as parents and students.<\/p>\n<p>The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the school\u2019s auditorium at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/dir\/Eastern+Mennonite+School\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg<\/a>. Parking and entrance to the auditorium is located in the back of the building, reached by entering the upper lot (toward Eastern Mennonite University) on the east side of the school\u2019s front office.
