What should you be doing now?<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fall:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focus on your grades! This year matters beyond all others.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take an AP\/DE class or two if you can manage it successfully (for highly selective colleges, you should consider 3 APs).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start seeking leadership opportunities within your activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October: Take the PSAT. This time, the test can qualify you for National Merit recognition.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research colleges in earnest and start building your list:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet with reps that visit EMS <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and sign up via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.scoir.com\/signin\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scoir<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend college fairs (most are virtual right now)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit colleges: register on the college\u2019s website; my recommendation: look for open houses, which offer a more comprehensive experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">See <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1KTND8hIK5N7PJNQti0Qq47dFUkC2ApCn4fQ-1_xkTEA\/edit?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">my handout<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for visit &amp; rep meeting suggestions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/app.scoir.com\/signin\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scoir <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to search for colleges and add them to your \u201cFollowing\u201d list.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Winter\/Spring:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend my info seminar: Preparing for the College Application Process (Date\/Time TBA)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet with me (parents\/guardians welcome) to discuss your plans (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll start booking meetings in early spring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take the SAT and\/or ACT at least once (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I recommend taking both to see which is stronger, and then retake that test Senior year<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan your senior course load carefully. Make sure you continue to show increasing\/sustained rigor. Consider adding a study hall first trimester to allow for time to complete college applications.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\" aria-checked=\"false\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Figure out what you\u2019re doing this summer: work, volunteer, take a class . . . this is your last summer to do something you can add to your college applications.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s time to get serious!
