Celebrating Academic Excellence

Paul Leaman, head of school, and Julianne Ross, librarian, with the visiting VAIS accreditation team from across VA.

Over the past 18 months our dedicated staff worked diligently towards EMS’s 10-year accreditation renewal with the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) visiting team. As part of this process and through a community survey in 2022, we affirmed and updated our vision and mission, and crafted a new dynamic strategic plan!

Nancy Foy, the team’s chair, shared “our team was impressed with the kindness and warm hospitality we experienced during our visit. The school truly sees and cares for each student and member of the community. Students feel seen, known, and supported.” The visiting team commended EMS for its strong sense of community and professional culture of collaboration.

Our commitment to relationships, restorative practices, peacebuilding, and the holistic development of our students received recognition. As we celebrate this accreditation success, our faculty and staff continue to find ways to work towards our vision to be a learning community where every student belongs, thrives, and joins God’s work in the world.

I am extremely grateful for our incredible faculty and staff who make lessons come to life, for our students and their families who are eager learners, and our expanded EMS community who support the school making it a wonderful place of learning and growing. Thank you!
—Paul Leaman, Head of School
