Science Students Access University Labs
EMS students are fortunate to have access to university quality laboratories, thanks to nearby James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University and collegial relationships between EMS science teachers and area professors.
Early in the school year, Kevin Carini‘s physics students worked on a force table at Eastern Mennonite University’s Suter Science Center.
The board is a common physics lab apparatus that has chains or cables attached to a center ring allowing students to adjust the direction of the three forces, make measurements of the amount of force in each direction, and determine the vector sum of the forces.
Throughout the school year, Mr. Carini takes groups to labs on both university campuses to work in physics, chemistry, engineering and robotics experiments, giving EMS students exposure to advanced equipment, research methods and area professors.
