Peace in different languages: EMES Peace Parade

18th annual EMES peace parade: peace in different languages

Peace is a universal aspiration expressed in diverse languages worldwide.  In Arabic, “Salaam”; in Spanish, “Paz”; in Hebrew, “Shalom”.  These variations remind us that the desire for peace transcends borders and cultures.  In a world marked by differences, these words are a reminder of our shared hope for a future where conflicts are reconciled through understanding and love, no matter the language we speak.

“Peace in different languages,” the theme of this year’s parade, is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace. EMES students unite, share, and embrace harmony during the tradition of the peace parade, embodying the love of Jesus.

The dove is a symbol of love and peace. The 5th grade class leads the elementary school in a parade around the school campus with the dove at the front.  After the parade, three 5th grade students asked to share passages of peace from the Hebrew tradition, Quran and the Christian Bible.

A Christian verse of peace: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15

A Jewish blessing of peace: Grant peace, goodness and blessing, grace, kindness and compassion to us and to all Your people Israel. Bless us, our Father, all of us as one, with the light of Your countenance, for by the light of Your countenance did You give us, Adonai our God, the Torah of life and love of kindness, justice, blessing, mercy, life and peace. And may You see fit, to bless your people Israel, at all times and in every hour with Your peace. Blessed are You, Adonai; who bless Your people Israel with peace.

A Muslim verse of peace:  And the servants of the most merciful are those who walk upon the earth when the ignorant address them harshly they say words of peace. Surat Al-Furqān 25:63

Keeping with tradition the 5th graders will sign their names on the peace dove’s wings, leaving their promise and commitment to help build peace in their communities.
