This past Saturday, an exciting announcement was made during the state championship recognition of girls soccer at a EMS boys soccer game, marking a significant achievement for athletic director and EMS girls varsity soccer coach, Andrew Gascho and for our school. United Soccer Coaches 2025 Coach of the Year award for Virginia, specifically in the category of high school girls soccer for Independent Schools was awarded to Gascho and we celebrated him amidst Homecoming events.

The award, which was officially revealed by Justin King, EMS high school principal, at the conclusion of the recognition ceremony, celebrates exceptional coaching talent and dedication. It is a testament to the hard work and commitment and the program Gascho has built with these athletes, guiding them to success on and off the field. Gascho is known around here for this famous line, “We are going to love you through the learning!” See this recent article in Spring/ Summer issue of TODAY about Gascho, his girls soccer team, and the coaching (and playing) culture of EMS.
“We’re going to love you through the learning!”
Peal Leaman, head of school, praised Gascho and his team, saying, “Girls varsity soccer consistently draws a large group eager to participate, not just for the state-caliber play and great soccer, but because it’s a joy to be part of a team where everyone has each other’s back. The girls love playing together, and the culture is one of strong community. Andrew has masterfully built and nurtured this environment. We couldn’t be prouder of Andrew and this well-deserved recognition.”
Congratulations, Andrew!
