Touring Choir Dates Announced

Choral singing has been a fundamental aspect of Eastern Mennonite School’s curriculum since its beginning in 1917. The school’s founders prioritized this tradition to preserve the art of four-part a cappella singing and to equip students with the skills to lead congregational singing in church settings.

Over the years, Eastern Mennonite School has cultivated a strong identity marked by exceptional choral singing. The Touring Choir consistently achieve the highest accolades at the Virginia Choral Directors Association District V Choral Ensemble Festival and the Virginia Music Educators Association convention. Talented individual students frequently audition for and are selected to participate in regional and all-state choirs including the most recent, which was just last week!

2026 District Choir

Fifteen students auditioned and were selected to District Choir- Marshall Nichols, Simon Blosser, Joey Fink, Isabela Jackson, Martin Trotter, GB Fairfield, Noah May, Sienna Kauffman, Wendel King, Chloe Thornton, Jude Kempe, Effie Eads, Eli Halteman, Zach Halteman, and Cayden Curry.

Four students were accepted to All VA Choir this year. They will be rehearsing and performing in Richmond in April-  Zach Halteman, Wendel King, Noah May, Marshall Nicholls.

The Touring Choir, a distinguished ensemble comprised of approximately 40 students from the 11th and 12th grades, has a longstanding tradition of excellence. Their choral worship services feature a diverse repertoire that includes classical and contemporary sacred music, as well as pieces from various cultural and musical traditions. Within this ensemble, the Chamber Choir serves as a select group of singers who exemplify the school’s high musical standards.

Each year, the Touring Choir performs many local concerts and church programs, culminating in an out-of-state spring tour most years. Additionally, the choir embarks on a European tour during alternating summers, with recent travels including performances in England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
