Weaver Takes over Varsity Volleyball Program
The Eastern Mennonite School Athletic Department is excited to announce Caitlin Weaver ‘19 as the new Varsity Volleyball Head Coach.
“I could not be more excited for Coach Weaver to take over as the Varsity Girls Volleyball Head Coach! Her desire to create impactful relationships through Volleyball will help transform our entire Volleyball program. The experience she gained with the JV program for the past two years gives her a great foundation of relationships with current players” said Athletic Director, Andrew Gascho.
Caitlin has spent her life around Volleyball. She joined the EMS Varsity Volleyball program as a Sophomore and was a six-rotation player, specializing as an outside hitter and middle-back defensive player. During the 2018 season when she was a 1st Team All-Conference selection, the Flames went undefeated in Conference play, and were the Blue Ridge Conference Champions. The 2018 season ended in the program’s first ever VISAA Final-Four appearance.
Cailin was a Varsity Assistant for the Flames in 2022 and has spent the last two seasons as an Assistant in the JV Program.
“I’m looking forward to taking on this new role! I’m dedicated to fostering a culture within the volleyball program that is supportive, driven, and centered around confident and skilled leaders. As head coach, my goal is to cultivate a team defined by high effort, skill, and connection. You can expect me to be a “warm demander.” I will set high standards for this team and will clearly communicate expectations for athlete behavior, team dynamics, game strategy, and level of play. However, the most important thing to me is that the girls love to be there. My first priority is to build a relationship with each player that is rooted in trust, respect, and care. The heart drives the mind- and I am committed to creating an environment where athletes feel valued and empowered to reach their highest potential.” – Coach Weaver
Joining the program as an Assistant Coach will be Karla Hostetter ‘21. During her career at EMS, Coach Hostetter was a setter who finished her career with over 1,000 assists. She continued her playing career at Eastern Mennonite University where she was a setter for the Women’s Volleyball program.
“I am looking forward to sharing my love of the sport and working with girls who want to work hard and grow in their learning of volleyball as a team,” reflected Coach Hostetter.
“In the interview process it was easy to see the passion and desire Coach Weaver has for the Volleyball Program at EMS. When she was a student athlete here, she experienced the transformative power of athletics and is looking forward to creating that same environment for our athletes. I look forward to seeing her and Coach Hostetter push our athletes to not only be the best volleyball players they can be, but also the best teammates they can be. Their technical knowledge, court awareness and volleyball experience will push the team to new heights! I can’t wait for the season to begin!” – Andrew Gascho
