Athletic Hall of Flames Addition!
Today we are celebrating excellence: Martha Wyse’s induction into the Hall of Flames! Andrew Gascho presented Martha Wyse with her award today at the awards assembly:
Martha Wyse’s tenure at EMS from 2022 to 2026 is a testament to her extraordinary impact on and off the soccer field, earning her a well-deserved induction into the Hall of Flames.
“Her five years as a varsity soccer player marked one of the most illustrious athletic careers in EMS history, where she became the driving force behind the EMS Girls Soccer program. Known for her infectious energy, relentless work ethic, competitive spirit, and positive attitude, Martha was a player who uplifted everyone around her. Her exceptional leadership and character set the standard for what it means to be an outstanding EMS athlete.”
Martha concluded her soccer career with an impressive 92 goals, placing her third on the all-time list for the program, while her record-setting 51 assists are unmatched at the school. Her dual capability to score and create scoring opportunities led to a remarkable 235 career points, the second-highest in the program’s history.
Her contributions did not go unrecognized, as Martha garnered respect across the Blue Ridge Athletic Conference (BRAC) and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA). In 2024, she was honored with a spot on the BRAC 1st Team and was selected for the VISAA 2nd Team. The following year, she elevated her performance, earning the BRAC Player of the Year award and the VISAA D3 State Player of the Year title. Her two decisive goals in the 2025 VISAA D3 State Championship game were instrumental in securing EMS’s third State Championship, and the first since 2015. During her senior year, as team captain, she led the Flames back to the championship game, narrowly missing consecutive titles. She was once again named to the BRAC 1st Team, was a VISAA 1st Team selection, and recognized as the WHSV Student Athlete of the Week.
Martha’s athletic prowess extended beyond soccer. She was a valuable member of the EMS Cross Country team and excelled in Indoor Track and Field. In 2025, she was part of the BRAC Championship 4×400 relay team, secured runner-up honors in the 500m, and placed sixth at the VISAA State Championships in the 500m Dash. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, she qualified for the state championships in the 500m four times, setting a school record with a time of 1:25.41.
Equally impressive was Martha’s academic performance. She maintained an outstanding 4.16 GPA throughout her high school career, exemplifying the balance between athletics and academics.
Martha Wyse’s legacy at EMS is not only defined by her athletic achievements but also by her exemplary character and dedication, making her a fitting inductee into the Hall of Flames. Her story stands as an inspiration for future student-athletes to strive for excellence in all endeavors.
