Erika Gascho has been named principal of the middle school division of Eastern Mennonite School.

“Erika brings a strong combination of experience, expertise, creative problem solving finesse, and commitment to restorative practices  to this role,” says Maria Archer, current K-8 principal. 

“Erika’s collaborative curricular ideas and strengths with learning support services truly made her our outstanding candidate,” Archer explained.  Archer has served as elementary principal since the division was founded in 2005, and took on 6-8 leadership in addition to that role in 2019.

Under Archer’s leadership, EMS middle school developed more of a distinct program to serve the unique needs of students in grades six to eight. Archer will return to a K-5 focus with the new hire.

Gascho has taught 5th grade at EMS since 2018. Earlier this spring, she was named Teacher of the Month by Q101 Radio, thanks to nominations from happy students and parents.

In addition to focusing on middle school leadership half time, Gascho will work with EMS’ growing Learning Support Services program.

Prior to teaching at EMES, Gascho was a special education teacher for Harrisonburg City Schools. She holds a bachelor’s degree and licensure in elementary and special education from Eastern Mennonite University, and is currently enrolled in EMU’s Restorative Justice in Education certificate program.

Gascho is married to Andrew Gascho, EMS athletic director, and mother to two EMES students.
