In a world often filled with negativity and self-doubt, the concept of words of affirmation stands out as a beacon of positivity and encouragement. Words have immense power – Words of affirmation are powerful messages of encouragement, support, and praise.

Words of affirmation are not only beneficial for personal growth but also for nurturing meaningful relationships. Expressing appreciation and admiration through affirming words strengthens bonds and fosters a sense of connection and belonging. Recently, during two separate chapels at EMS, seniors and our faculty/staff shared words of affirmation directed at each other in a long-running tradition of mutual upliftment.

Highlights from the senior affirmation chapel:

“Leader. Actor. Engineered. Scholar. Gentleman, Competitor, Lego hoarder, Minecraft YouTuber. These are just a few words that describe Ryan H. A true Renaissance Man. Your hard work and determination will take you far on this journey. I wish you the best in your future endeavors.” – Mr. Carini

“Elle Y. – You have such a passion and energy for the things that you love. You put your whole self into what you do. Thank you for all of the creative energy and time you put into the musical set this year. It was really fun to work with you. Not only were you extremely reliable and talented, you just made it so easy.  Thank you for making the art room so lively and a joyful place to be. I will miss you just bursting in the door first thing and telling me all the creative things you’ve done.” – Ms. Gascho

Drew H.  – What is amazing is your quiet spirit. When we see you in the hallway you move about and you’re very quiet, but Drew, put you on the [basketball] court and you’re the boss! You become alive! It is your passion. Your leadership for the team this past year was just amazing. This will also carry with you in life. You have very strong life skills and I’m excited to see where you’re going to go with that.” -Ms. Eberly

Teachers serve as more than just educators; they are mentors who guide students through challenges and celebrate their successes. They recognize and cultivate students’ passions and leadership, helping develop essential life skills. As students prepare for adulthood they extend their best wishes for the future. Their words of wisdom emphasize the importance of embracing failure as a powerful teaching tool in the pursuit of knowledge.

Prayer by senior class sponsor Shannon Roth:

“Dear God, we have been so blessed by the gifts of many of the members of the class of 2024. Each student is unique and each has been given gifts by you and the Holy Spirit. We’re so grateful for all the ways in which those gifts have played out here at EMS, and we pray that those gifts will continue to bless the world as each of these students go into different communities, learning environments, the work world, and beyond. We also think of you this Holy Week:  of your life your death and your soon-to-be Resurrection.  Thank you for the love you’ve poured into each of the seniors and each of the other individuals in the auditorium today, may we continue to bless the world. n your name I pray, amen”
