Four Generations of Flames!

As Homecoming approaches October 16-17, the school community is buzzing with excitement. This year, we are celebrating class years ending in ‘6’ or ‘1’ and we will be sharing alumni stories leading up to homecoming weekend!

Dr. Rohrer Eshleman ’41

Rohrer Eshleman graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in 1941. This fall will be his 85th class reunion. Born in 1917, Rohrer will celebrate his 104th birthday this October, making him the oldest living graduate of EMS.

Rohrer’s legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of EMS and endures through his daughter Cindy Eshleman ’79 and grandson, Ryan Eshleman-Robles ’09, proud alumnus, Varsity Soccer Coach and English Teacher. The family connection remains strong, with Ryan’s son, Matias, currently a student at EMS and part of the Class of 2039. Matias’ mom, Valeria is a beloved spanish teacher at EMS, too!

Rohrer graduated from high school in 1941 and from EMC (now EMU) in 1945. Pursuing a career in medicine, he attended medical school in Philadelphia and spent nearly two decades as a physician in Ethiopia. Upon returning to the United States in the mid-1960s, he continued his practice in emergency medicine. Recently, the Eshleman family was able to gather to remember and celebrate Ryan’s late grandmother’s life.

We are so grateful for the Eshlemans and families like theirs who further the legacy of our school, inspiring generations to come!
