Jonny Rashid, pastor, author, speaker and podcaster from Philadelphia, Pa., will speak at Eastern Mennonite School Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m.“Jesus Sides With The Oppressed: How Can I Be On His Side?” is the title of Rashid’s talk, which will draw on his book, Jesus Takes a Side, Embracing the Political Demands of the Gospel (Herald Press 2022).
In the book, Rashid lays out the political demands of following Jesus and offers strategies for how to engage politics practically and prophetically.
Copies of books will be for sale, and Rashid will be available for a book signing, hosted by MennoMedia, in the auditorium foyer to the 7 p.m. program. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The presentation is made possible through the EMS Kennel/Charles Endowed Fund, and co-sponsored by MennoMedia. The fund is used to host a guest Mennonite-Anabaptist historian, pastor, teacher, or other individual to speak to and interact with students each year.
The March 23 public presentation will take place in the school’s auditorium at 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg. All are welcome. A livestream of the presentation will be available here.
Rashid’s time at the school will include a Chapel service for middle and high school students and time with students in classrooms, over lunch, and in one-on-one exchanges.
